Forex option trading is used during those times when world events could have a rapid effect on a certain currency. This option is favored when traders do not want to risk a lot of money but they are looking to make a profit off of their assumptions. By using this form of forex trading, options can be purchased at a set time in the future and the trader will either lose a certain amount of money or make a profit based on their trade.

There are two types of forex option trading styles: the American Style and the European Style. The American style is one that can be exercised throughout the specified amount of time, up until the expiry date. The European style is limited since it can only be exercised once the expiry date is reached.

Traditionally, this kind of forex trading is called the call/put option and it is allows the buyer to sell to another trader at a specified time in the future, at a set condition. Although this method of trading is quite complex, it is used by many traders in order to lessen the risk of this industry. If they happen to lose money on this trade, it will only be the premium that they lose.
